Therefore, we never stop thanking God that when you received his message from us, you didn’t think of our words as mere human ideas. You accepted what we said as the very word of God — which, of course, it is. And this word continues to work in you who believe. (1 Thessalonians 2:13 NLT)

  • Note, this is with specific mention to believers! The word of God works in those of us who believe in God, the author of that word.
  • The word of God has power. Power to change minds. Power to change lives. Power to heal the sick. Power to heal the broken heart.
  • The word of God is active, not passive. The word of God is alive. It is as active now, as it was when He spoke it. It is as powerful now, as it was when He spoke it. It is as true now, as it was when He spoke it.
  • The word of God transcends time and space. The word of God works, literally.
  • The word works in us to make us more like Him. The word is working in us to bring forth good fruit. The word is working in us to fortify us. The word is working in us to strengthen us. The word is working in us to solidify our faith. The word is working in us to change the way we see things. The word is working in us to bring to fruition the will of God the Father in our lives. The word is working in us to help us discover who we are in Christ. The word of God is working in us to produce a good work in the name of the Lord. The word of God is working in us to produce a hope that is anchored on Him.
  • You don’t have to feel something to believe that the word of God is working in your life. Words of God are meant to be received by faith, not by sight. Faith is not a feeling. When you receive the word of God into your spirit, the word goes to work. The more you deposit the word of God into your spirit, the more work it does.
  • Notice Paul said that these people received the word by faith, as it was. When you receive the word by faith, you accept it and believe it for what it actually is: the word of God. Look at what Paul had to say about the power of the word of God for the believer:

The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God. (1 Corinthians 1:18 NLT)

  • You have to realize that God’s words have power. If God created the world by a word which clearly had the power to create the world because we are the evidence of thereof, then His word must be absolutely true & inherently powerful. Perhaps, you need a word from Him more than you need breakfast.
  • Mind you, God’s word created & still creates things to this day. God’s word moves (it’s dynamic, not static). Therefore, God’s word literally contains power. Power to “move” things.
  • It is this power we cultivate when we read and meditate on his word day and night. God literally works inside of us through His word. His word transforms us.
  • So, you could say that the word of God is food for our Spirit. Our spirit needs food just like our bodies need food. But often, our spirits are malnourished, badly. Our spirits cannot be nourished by natural food. It can only be nourished with spiritual food. The word of God is that spiritual food.
  • We strengthen our spiritual muscles by reading and meditating on the word of God. Reading the word strengthens our spirit. It enables us to be led by the spirit in a greater way because the word of God is fuel for the spirit. Therefore, the word possesses spiritual strength.

The man who reads the word is strong in spirit, not because he is special, but because the word of God literally strengthens his spirit.

  • We have a spirit that is the exact image of God himself. We can’t feed our spirit with something other than God. It is impossible. God is the source. He was the source and always will be the source of life. The foundation of life is the spirit. We are spirit.
  • The word of God is full of potential. The word of God is intentional. God doesn’t just say things mindlessly. God is an intentional speaker. What He says He does. What He says, comes to pass. Therefore, it is in our best interest to listen when He speaks because the word of God is full of potential.

The rain and snow come down from the heavens and stay on the ground to water the earth. They cause the grain to grow, producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry. It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it. (Isaiah 55:10‭-‬11 NLT)

  • Also, God’s word is a seed. He says it himself here! And notice this is an old testament scripture and it was affirmed again by Jesus in the parable of the sower! What amazing revelation. The word of God is the seed and the seed has power to produce fruit for the sower and food for the hungry. Powerful!
